Total Oxidation of Methane on Oxide and Mixed Oxide Ceria-Containing Catalysts

Methane, discovered in 1766 by Alessandro Volta, is an attractive energy source because of its high heat combustion per mole carbon dioxide. However, methane the most abundant hydrocarbon atmosphere and important greenhouse gas, with a 21-fold greater relative radiative effectiveness than CO2 on per-molecule basis. To avoid or limit formation pollutants that are dangerous for both human health atmospheric environment, catalytic appears to be one promising alternatives thermal combustion. Total oxidation methane, which environmentally friendly at much lower temperatures, believed efficient economically feasible way eliminate pollutants. This work presents literature review, statu quo, transition metal oxide-modified ceria catalysts (MOx/CeO2). Methane was used this study since it great interest as model compound understanding mechanisms oxides. The objective evaluate conceptual ideas oxygen vacancy through doping increase activity over CeO2. Oxygen vacancies were created solid solutions, their activities compared undoped CeO2 sample. reaction conditions, type catalysts, morphology crystallographic facets exposing role vacancies, deactivation mechanism, stability mechanism kinetic characteristics summarized.
